dream weekend

it was a dream weekend
one of the best i've had
in a long time

we kicked it off friday night
with a fantastic show
at sons of hermann hall
i'd had a rough week
sick in bed tuesday and wednesday
still feeling lousy and tired friday
but it all disappeared once that first chord hit
it felt GREAT to be playing music
and i enjoyed myself thoroughly
even though my voice was a bit ragged
i kinda liked how it unravelled
the audience was great
smiling and singing along
the sound was onstage very nice too
i guess the freshly dubbed
"nourallah alliance"
was in full tilt
i felt like a proud pappa
watching jd and johnny
this is the way all shows should be

saturday we spent the whole day celebrating
lisa's birthday
it started with breakfast at breadwinners
although i gotta say
at first i was a little uncomfortable there
the crowd looking a little too big D perfect
for me
but after we got our cozy little table
in the corner
and a really nice waiter
who even brought us a pastry on the house
i felt good
and the food was amazing
no wonder all those people
were eating there

after that we took lisa on a surprise visit
to kwik E mart on northwest highway
if you haven't been there already
it's all decked out like it is in the simpsons cartoons
lisa and jayme are avid fans
so they were loving it
right down to the boxes of krusty o's and buzz cola
i really enjoyed seeing how happy it made them

the simpson's movie was up next
i enjoyed it
but i must admit
i fell asleep in the middle of it

we had dinner at chuy's with G
he danced to the clash
in a red vinyl booth in the elvis room
sun setting to our right
dusk streaming in through the windows
the food was great
it was a beautiful moment for me

we also re-visited the magnolia
and all of jayme's fab paintings
it was nice to look at them all again
and see how happy they made lisa and lee

today was an idyllic way to end the weekend
we had breakfast with L and L
jayme made pancakes and eggs
G went crazy over the fake bacon
it even surpassed his interest in pancakes
after we said our goodbyes to L and L
we spent the rest of day working on domestic projects
we'd been meaning to get to but hadn't time to do
for example
cleaning all the windows in our house (inside and out)
i know
extremely glamorous
and very "show-biz" of us

art show

thursday night we had a party

it was jayme's first art showing
at the magnolia gallery
i was so proud of her
her paintings looked awesome
she was beautiful
so nervous
and humble
worried that no one would like them
but everyone did
(see photo)
gavin was twittering with anticipation
all day
"when is the party daadaa? now? is it now?"
he wanted to wear his "el catzu" shirt
and blue pinstriped blazer
with yellow and green rain boots
it was quite an ensemble
lemme tell you...

jayme had a fabulous spread prepared
like only she could do
pink cupcakes with little plastic kids on top
juice boxes
goldfish
bologna mini sandwiches
and an assortment of obscure retro kid candies
the food theme matching her art theme
it was awesome

her works will be hanging at the magnolia for a month
so if you happen to be in the neighbourhood
go check 'em out
i guarantee it'll be worth the trip

we have lots to celebrate this weekend
the success of jayme's show #1
#2
friday "snowing in my heart" was released in europe
#3
i found out this week it looks like i'm going to be recording
and producing the next cd
for one of the most successful (and best) bands to ever come from dallas
i'm beyond excited
i can barely sleep at night

i took a half day off today
thanks to r.r.
we "adopted" our niece jessica
for the weekend
we took her and G to his favorite lunching place
pot belly's
then we went to the splash park
i feel so relaxed
and content
it's absurd

tonight my friends the cut-off are at barley
i think i might pay them a visit

i hope you're enjoying your weekend too

love

charmis

gavin has a new obsession
ex-pulp leader
jarvis cocker
for starters
he calls him "charmis"
i can't go 3 minutes in the car
without a request from the backseat
to play charmis
"don't let him waste your time is my favorite song dadda!"
if i try and listen to something else
gavin will keep repeating
"charmis - dadda - charmis - play charmis please dadda"
i would have to be heartless to not give in
to his pleas
"play it LOUD dadda"
so then we have listen to
"don't let him..."
"black magic"
and "heavy weather"
in succession
over and over again
no skipping
LOUD
he's recently made the keen observation
that charmis and i share the same taste
in eyewear
so he politely asks me for my glasses
so that he can stand like charmis does
on the front cover
i've included a pic
for your amusement
last night i was thrilled to see
that later with jools holland
was having jarvis on as a guest
i couldn't wait to see how G would react
to seeing his new musical hero
come to life on the big screen
this morning i told him
i had a "special treat" for him
the "special treat" is usually some sort of candy
so he was very confused when i revealed charmis
on TV as the "treat"
but he instantly got down to a serious thumb suck
as he watched charmis lay down his moves
and grooves
including a marvelous spanking of his own bottom
which gavin fully appreciated
as he is also currently very interested in
well...

the upside down

7-7-07
triple lucky 7?

early this morning/late last night
i booked the flights
to europe
i'm beyond excited
in fact
i was so revved up
i couldn't sleep much
ever since we'd gotten back
last year
i'd been looking forward to going back
and seeing my friends
dirk
gunther
basti
and the rest of my german/swiss friends
ahh
the rolling german countryside
ahh
the castles
and pretzels
ahh
frothy beers (just kidding)
the fast black sedans
to travel
and play my music
and spend time with my family
this is the life i always dreamt of
i feel so lucky...

this time around
siebeth
martin
and sonke
have agreed to be my backing band
for part of the tour
it's going to be outrageous fun
and also a bit of relief
from the pressure of solo acoustic shows

paris might also be in the cards
i've never been
(except when i was 3)
so i'm pretty excited about that
i gotta work my tail off now
for the next couple of months
so that when we go
i can breathe easy
knowing that all the bills are paid

the nourallah brothers reunion
that i failed to mention here
lasted about 48 hours
we've honed breaking up to a scientific level of precision
2007 was gonna be our year
the plans were made
the deal inked
the lawyers fired
and then....
whaaa happen lucy????

well
i can't really go in to the details
maybe you'll see then in this week's enquirer
or star
next to "brittany attacked my triple amputee"
i guess it just wasn't in the cards
looks like no rocky balboa comeback for the N brothers
regardless
i do know i'm not making my next record the same way
as "snowing"
although i'm happy with the end results of S.I.M.H.
it feels like it's time for a shake up
i want to do something radically different next time
don't worry
i'm not gonna start playing reggae music
or rapping
i just feel like standing this method
of making records
that i've become comfortable with
on it's head
